Three People Get Bit By A Tick...

Three people get bit by a tick that transmits the spirochete causing lyme disease into their bloodstream. The first person has a robust immune system that obliterates the spirochete before it causes problems. He never knows that he was ever bitten and never gets sick. The next person contracts Lyme disease with its typical symptoms, sees the doctor, gets treated and gets well with no further problems. The third person contracts Lyme disease, perhaps receives initial treatment, but does not fully recover. He goes on to have months and then years of fatigue, muscle ache and general misery. Three different people. The same exposure. Very different outcomes. What determines one persons destiny from another?
IMMUNE HEALTH
We are all aware of certain parameters of our health. We know our height, our weight, perhaps even our blood pressure and cholesterol. But how is your immune system? How can that be tested? It may be that the health of our immune system is the most important element determining the outcome when we are exposed to lyme and other infectious illnesses. In the same manner, it is our immune system that defends us against early cancers. We cannot see it, nor do we appreciate when it is working well, but if there's a problem the doors of misery will be open wide.
LYME IS EVERYWHERE
With the proliferation of favorable habitat, there has been an explosion in the population of the ticks that cause lyme and other infectious illnesses. Avoiding exposure is difficult, if not impossible in our location. It has been estimated that 50% of Lyme disease occurs in people who have no recollection of ever being bitten by a tick. This is because the tick is most active when it's in the "nymph" stage. At that point in its lifecycle it is nearly impossible to see with the naked eye.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
Inspect your property and eliminate habitats conducive to proliferation of ticks. Wood piles, bramble that is left on the edge of your property, overgrown grass, are all favorable sites for them to live. If you are going to an area where ticks are likely, try to keep your skin covered and use tick repellant on exposed areas of skin, and on your clothing. (DEET for your skin, Permethrin for cloths). Inspect your skin each evening. The longer the tick stays on your body, the more likely it is to transmit the disease.
MAINTAIN IMMUNE HEALTH
At I.M.120, we focus our practice on advanced prevention. This includes evaluation of your immune system and directing you towards the best supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle adjustments to maintain a robust immune system. This is always your best defense against Lyme, other infectious illnesses, and cancer. It's not a coincidence that when people are stressed, fatigued or otherwise run down they are more likely to become sick. For our patients who are facing such stress, we have immune supportive intravenous drips and other modalities to help get them through tough times.
THE I.M.120 APPROACH FOR TREATING ACUTE LYME
We combined the appropriate use of antibiotics when needed, with immune supporting intravenous, nutritional, and supplement recommendations. This multi-faceted approach enables you to have your best outcome in the face of acute Lyme disease.
TREATMENT OF CHRONIC LYME
By the time Lyme disease becomes chronic, the spirochete has left damage to the muscles, joints, even the brain. The spirochete itself can go into hiding, executing a form of "guerrilla warfare" against your body, wearing down your good health and sapping your energy. We use a multifaceted approach to restore your body to it's best health.
First we ensure the Lyme spirochete has been adequately suppressed, if not fully eliminated. Optimal use of antibiotics may be necessary.
Then we support your immune system and boost your energy with our unique intravenous supplements.
Finally, restoring the pituitary, adrenal, and gonadal axis is necessary to regain all your strength. Like other infections, the lyme spirochete can leave damage behind even after it has been treated. This damage often centers on the nervous system leaving a host of problems, most prominently fatigue, aching muscles and joints and mental fog." Reviving the adrenal glands, the thyroid and the sex hormones using bio identical hormones to restore energy is often necessary.
Having acute, or chronic Lyme disease does not sentence you to living half a life. Properly addressed, full health, full energy, and a complete recovery can be your destiny.
To your best health,
Dr. Stephen Petteruti
