It's your morning commute in busy rush-hour traffic. Your senses are sharpened. Vision is keen, head is on a swivel, muscles are ready to react.  Cars are rushing about you. On top of it all, maybe you are a few minutes late for work and trying to make up lost time.

Welcome to the urban jungle.

Just like your forbearers stalking prey in a bygone era, this dangerous environment requires a surge of adrenaline and cortisol to get you through it. Thanks to your ever-ready adrenal gland, you have an ample supply of the necessary hormones necessary  to survive such...

Traditionally, Thanksgiving is the premier "eat until you can't move" holiday.  For those of you born with a butterball metabolism, one day of indulgence can set you back several weeks in your objective of achieving a healthy weight.  This is especially true for those of you have recently lost significant amounts of weight.  Remember, fat cells never go away, they just shrink. In some ways, they are like a dry sponge, waiting to inflate rapidly when given the opportunity.

So how can you enjoy this holiday and make sure that the only thing that ends up stuffed is the turkey?

Can An App Help To Detect Skin Cancer?

Category: Healthy Living
skin cancer, melanoma, healthcare apps. Posted by: ShannonPetteruti

If there was a device to help you determine if one of your moles might possibly be skin cancer, would you use it?

There has been a major upswing in healthcare apps over the past year. Consumers now can check everything from blood pressure, dementia screenings, and sleep status. Curious what everyone is using? iMedicalapps may give you a leg up on the most common right now. On the same scale, many healthcare providers are concerned that certain apps can give people peace of mind when they actually should have made an...

Welcome to November.

I look out my window at a graying landscape. A rain and snow mixed drizzle falls on cold ground. The sun will set tonight at 4:30 PM. For many of you, a drop in mental and physical energy can accompany the onset of the long dark days of winter. Every muscle and joint tends to ache a bit more.

Energy in a drip

We all know what our recommended daily allowance is of vitamins should be. After all, they are listed right there on package for us to read. However, those levels are far below what is optimally needed to fire our engines....

Better Medicine, More Freedom and Privacy with Concierge Medicine.

These are the primary reasons motivating the change in practice that we will be implementing on January 1, 2015

The change of pace in medicine has been breathtaking and unprecedented in its scope and impact.

Doctors and patients are being herded into large clusters of "accountable care groups." Small private practices are being marginalized and are targeted for extinction.

Soon, the days of having a personal physician who is accountable primarily to you will be largely a thing of...

You can either let aging depress you, or inspire you... This past year, as I stared down the day that I would turn 40, I made a choice to embrace it in a big way!

I hear so many people talk about how they can't do or achieve the things they want to... Or how they are unhappy with something about themselves or their lives. Well I was one of those people for years too... Stuck in an overweight, unhealthy body, wanting to do more and have more opportunities. But I finally got tired of just complaining about it and decided that I was going to use my 40th birthday as a goal to finally...

New Help for Sufferers of Post Lyme Disease Syndrome

Southern New England is ground zero for Lyme Disease. Every year, thousands of patients are acutely infected with this insidious spirochete. If you are fortunate, you had enough symptoms early on so that you and your doctor could recognize the disease and you could receive proper treatment right away.

However, in half the cases of Lyme disease, there is often no recollection of a tick bite occurring at all. That is because the deer tick that transmits Lyme Disease can be so small that it cannot be seen by...

Can I Prevent Cancer? It's Likely.

It's likely that every day we make cancer cells. Fortunately for most of us, our immune system is up to the task of eliminating them before they become a problem.

Cancer prevention begins at a cellular level. At some point in the evolution of cancer, cell division goes wrong. A mutated division leads to a malignant line of cells that if left unchecked can grow into a cancerous tumor. Effective cancer prevention must target this cellular level of origin.

It's important to remember that cancer screening is not a form of prevention. Early detection is helpful, but how much...
